Fujifilm X-T5 ISO400 f2.8 1/1600 | XF 50-150mm @ 50mm

Storm on the Horizon

Simon Abrams May 9, 2025

A week or two ago, I rented a camera setup from Lensrentals.com for an upcoming event shoot. I got a Fujifilm X-T5 and a Fujinon XF 50-140 f2.8 R LM OIS WR, and took them out just to get accustomed to them before the event.

On a whim, I drove down to Valentino Pier in Red Hook to maybe shoot some images of the Statue of Liberty, but just as I was getting there, some incredibly dramatic weather started to form over Staten Island.

I ran over and met some other photographers, and we all had our breath a little bit taken away by the drama that was playing out in front of us.

We had just enough time to capture these images before the storm made its way over to Brooklyn, and, well, let’s just say I was glad to have weather resistant gear.
